Our speaker will author Robert N. Macomber. His presentation is entitled "The Great Escape" which tells the riveting tale of Confederate Secretary of State Judah P. Benjamin’s epic escape to freedom through Florida. 

Robert N. Macomber’s credentials are distinctive and diverse. He has earned the prestigious title of Distinguished Lecturer at NATO HQs [Belgium], U.S. Southern Command, and U.S. European Command [Germany]. 

​As a prolific author, Robert has been the recipient of the Patrick D. Smith Literary Award, the American Library Association’s W.Y. Boyd Literary Award, and a Silver Medal in Popular Fiction from the Florida Book Awards, to name a few. On February 1, 2020 the Florida Writers Association, Inc., (FWA) announced that Robert N. Macomber has been named 2020 Florida Writer of the Year. FWA confers this title annually to recognize outstanding talent in the industry. 

He is best known for his fourteen Honor Series novels, which describe the life and career of a U.S. naval officer, from the American Civil War stationed in Florida, to the years beyond the Spanish-American War in 1898.

Our speaker will be one of our members,  Virginia (Ginny) Nodhturft.  Her presentation will be about the Union spy ring established in Richmond, VA by Ginny's great, great, grandmother FWE Lohmann along with Elizabetn Van Lew.  Ginny recently published a book on this subject entitled: "F.W.E. Lohmann Elizabeth Van Lew's Civil War Spy: A Story of Heroism Displayed by the Richmond Underground"
